Uni Mitsubishi Pencil – the writing instrument that has taken the world by storm
Writing enriches us; it is essential and important. Through writing we convey ideas, record our most important thoughts, learn, communicate, and express ourselves. That is why it matters what we write with, and Uni Mitsubishi Pencil has been developing pens of the highest quality and style for more than 130 years. From the very beginning, when Niroku Masaki founded the company in 1887, the company has been dedicated to innovations, quality, and the safety of printing.
Japanese quality and tradition build trust, and this is also confirmed by the Uni Mitsubishi Pencil writing instrument brand. Minimalism and functionality are the main values we recognize in many Japanese brands, including the Uni brand from our distribution. Eurotrade has had exclusive distribution of this writing instrument for several decades, and it is recognized in every office or artistic corner.
UNI brand is inspired by the word 'unique', and it has proven its name with a constant strive for innovation and diversity of its products to satisfy all customer needs: office, school, industry and crafts, hobby and art. Born from a factory of high-quality wooden pencils, this company has experienced a real rise with the production of rollerball pens and ballpoint pens. In that area UNI becomes a 'trendsetter' and an innovator: the first roller with a metal tip, the first ballpoint pen with a water-based ink, the first technical pen with a rotating tip, the first ballpoint with a cartridge under pressure.
History
Back in 1887, with only 10 employees, Niroku Masaki founded Masaki Pencil Manufacturing in Tokyo, and by 1901 Masaki Pencil became the first company to sell domestically produced graphite pencils to the predecessor of Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. In 1979, in search of better printing quality than a standard roller, the market saw 'uni ball', the world's first roller with a metal tip named UB-100. Its exceptional quality and smoothness of printing quickly made it a favorite in the Japanese and American markets, resulting in enormous sales. A year later, the first product that uses white pigment tint (titanium oxide) was released, and today we recognize it under the name Uni Paint marker.
The year that is most important for many artists today is 1983. That year the unique marker that the whole world is currently raving about—POSCA—with water-based ink and color pigments—was released.
1986. As part of the company's 100th anniversary, they launch the UB -155 roller, the world's first roller to use pigment ink and a metal tip. In the same year they also release Prockey markers with a water-based ink and color pigments along with a white titanium oxide base.
1994. Uni-ball Eye is released, a model that symbolizes the cornerstone of pigment dispersion technology in ink, and a model with which, at the beginning of February 2020, we won a gold medal for the largest sales growth among distributors. In the same year Uni-ball Signo is released, the world's first pigment gel roller with a metal ball.
In 2001, the Vision Elite line of rollers was launched—the first in the world to offer eight ink colors with a liquid pigment ink.
2003. Signo 207 was launched on the market, the world’s first non-erasable roller with gel ink, today a symbol of protection against document forgery. In the same year Jetstream also came out with a new quick-drying ink formula, a hybrid between a ballpoint pen and a rollerball with all the advantages of both inks.
2015. Uni-ball Air was introduced, a revolutionary new roller with hybrid tip technology that combines the softness of a marker tip with the stiffness of a roller tip, and it writes in multiple line widths depending on the angle of grip. In the same year, the TSI also arrives, the 'write and erase' roller with thermosensitive ink. After it, Signo 307 hits the market, bringing the world’s first practical application of cellulose nanofibers. It also features technology for uninterrupted writing and a fast-drying ink that is impossible to counterfeit.
